First off, SARS-CoV2 refers to the virus and COVID-19 refers to the disease/illness that someone develops AFTER infection.

Preventing infection from SARS-CoV2 and decreasing the spread of the virus are separate issues from fighting off the virus or reducing your risk of an exacerbation of symptoms after you are infected. I.e. getting infected is different and should be treated differently than developing the disease.

Diet and lifestyle do not prevent infection. Nothing other than avoidance prevents infection. SARS-CoV2 is one of those viruses that can infect Everyone. Even healthy individuals who may show no signs of infection may be infected. While going about their day, they may be actively spreading it or spreading it to others.

Infection prevention:

Following the CDC or WHO Guidelines of hand washing, not touching your face, social isolating, etc will help prevent infection and the spread of the virus.

Disease prevention

BUT diet and lifestyle may play a huge role in what happens AFTER someone is infected, thus reducing your chance of developing the disease: COVID-19.

Right now, before or after infection, it is more important than ever to follow a healthy diet plan and follow healthy lifestyle habits to prepare your body in the event that you do get infected. These practices won’t prevent you from infecting other people, but they may improve your body’s ability to fight off the infection.

Having a strong and balanced immune system is the key to fighting the disease.

Diet and lifestyle are directly related to immune function. For those who already workout, you may have preemptively improved your cardiopulmonary fitness thus helping in the event that you do develop severe symptoms. For those who don’t it’s not too late to start.
